Recently, the Irish Producer Registration Authority (PRL) issued an email notification: In accordance with the latest requirements of the EU Battery Regulation, effective January 1, 2026, all non-Irish companies wishing to sell batteries in the Irish market must appoint an Authorized Representative to complete battery law registration.
Ireland Battery Law Authorized Representative Requirements:
For non-Irish companies, whether you are already registered or planning to register, the authorized representative requirement will take effect on January 1, 2026. If you complete your Ireland Battery Law registration in 2025, you will still need to appoint an authorized representative starting in 2026.
Does Ireland's WEEE also require an Authorized Representative?
Although the recent email from Ireland's PRL did not mention WEEE Authorized Representative regulations, Ireland's Environmental Protection Agency and the EU IMPEL (Network for the Implementation and Enforcement of Environmental Law) have clarified the Authorized Representative requirements.
1. Mandatory Appointment of Authorized Representatives
An authorized representative must be appointed in the following scenarios:
① Businesses located in another EU Member State placing WEEE products on the Irish market via distance selling;
② Businesses located within Ireland placing WEEE products directly on the market of another EU Member State via distance selling.
2. Voluntary Appointment of Authorized Representatives
Companies established in another Member State or a third country that place WEEE products on the Irish market through non-distance selling channels.
Additionally, non-Irish companies placing WEEE products on the Irish market via distance selling (e.g., Chinese cross-border e-commerce sellers) must appoint an authorized representative located within Ireland.
Starting in 2026, non-Irish sellers placing batteries and WEEE products on the Irish market via distance selling (whether already registered or about to register) must appoint an Authorized Representative.
How do non-Irish businesses achieve compliance?

Key Considerations for Sellers
1. Authorized Representative Alignment is Critical: Non-EU businesses must ensure AR details match platform registrations to prevent registration number invalidation due to AR discrepancies.
2. Multi-Platform Compliance: Beyond Amazon, platforms like TEMU and AliExpress will also verify EPR status; synchronize qualification uploads across all platforms.
3. Data Accuracy: Accurately declare product categories during registration; misclassification may invalidate registration.
